Sight of the Outsider: Blind Mansour From Zakamsk

Curator: Anna Suvorova

Art of Mansour Zakirov (1968 - 2004) - is a story of internal exile, of "serious" critical discourse rejection, of the transition to the logic of total irony. Transformation of internal artist status associated with loss of vision coincide with changes in social and political reality that took place in the late 1990's - early 2000's. Like many artists who created their works in the era of "no-time", Mansour consciously constructed outsider position.

Symbolic search and borrowed avangarde techniques both characterising early work of Mansour where replaced by simplification of intellectual expression, which is shown in the texts of the "fences"; conscious mimicry to primitivism, treatment of the themes of folklore and everyday life.
